This week, CSH staff, fellow advocates and supportive housing tenants took to Capitol Hill to meet with Representatives and Senators from across the country. A group representing the California contingent had a special meeting with new House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23). (pictured above)
Tenant advocates from Los Angeles, Alleah, Theresa, James and Troy, joined CSH on the Hill Visits. Having legislators hear directly from the individuals who are impacted by federal programs is critical in making our case. Pictured left, on the hill. Pictured below with Rep. Roybal-Allard (CA-40)
The message we are spreading is simple – we need to fully fund homeless assistance and supportive housing programs in order to end homelessness. Congress is set to return home for summer recess and when they return in the fall, the priority must be to pass a full FY15 HUD spending bill, and not a band aid, like a Continuing Resolution.
CSH put together a a packet for you to use during recess. (see below) While Congress is in their home district and states is the perfect time to arrange a visit, or have them see a supportive housing residence in the communities they represent.

Staff along with fellow advocates from New Jersey also met with all 13 members of the New Jersey Delegation, including Rep. Pallone (NJ-6), pictured below.
