Polk Bros. Foundation Helps Families in Need

polk logo

The Polk Bros. Foundation is a generous supporter of CSH initiatives in the State of Illinois, especially our efforts there focused on helping vulnerable families find the stable, affordable housing they need to move forward as a family.

One of the program areas identified for investment by Polk Bros. is strengthening families. In this vein, Polk Bros. funds structured programs that promote children’s development and families’ abilities to provide safe, secure, engaged environments so youth receive the support they need to learn and thrive.

Through CSH, investment from Polk Bros. is helping promote Chicago HomeWorks, a new multi-year campaign to create affordable housing for homeless families and improve school services for homeless students in Chicago.

Working with parent leaders and housing providers, HomeWorks is advocating for improved school services and more family-sized housing, including 500 housing units for families through the Chicago Low-Income Housing Trust Fund.

Home Works campaign partners include: AIDS Foundation, Beacon Therapeutic, Catholic Charities, CCH, CSH, Heartland Alliance, La Casa Norte, Primo Center for Women and Children, and Unity Parenting and Counseling.

In addition to their commitment to address the needs of struggling families, the Polk Bros. funds CSH outreach helping supportive housing services providers in Illinois determine their potential for revenue from Medicaid expansion made possible through the Affordable Care Act.

The Polk Bros. Foundation exists today due to the success of the Polk Bros. chain of retail furniture and appliance stores, a Chicago institution for more than 55 years.
