In December, El Centro, celebrated the grand opening of its newest affordable housing community, Las Brisas. The 72-unit complex, serves residents who live with as little as 30 percent of the median county income and it is the first apartment complex in El Centro to have on-site mental health services.
El Centro, County Behavioral Health Services, Chelsea Investment Corp. and Rabobank are some of the agencies involved in this project that took some eight years to be completed.
Las Brisas has various health and wellness programs available for residents. One of the residents already taking advantage of programs is Liza Garcia.
“I’m a very happy resident,” said the 37-year-old and “lucky mother of six children. I’m very thankful. My children love the playground; I love the dishwasher,” said Garcia with a big smile.
