On any given day, there are a little over 50,000 individuals in Ohio’s prisons; and each year, approximately 25,000 are released back to the community with a small percentage of them having nowhere to go. In 2006, CSH and ODRC began collaborating on a plan to address how the Department could utilize its resources to develop a supportive housing program.
“The Supportive Housing Institute was a tremendous asset given its comprehensive design. The mix of evidence-based research with actual practitioners and projects was captivating and inspiring. Andy Hutzel, Director of Operations, Over the Rhine Community Housing, Cincinnati, Ohio
CSH provided technical assistance to the sponsors of Sunshine Terrace, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority and the YMCA of Central Ohio. Sunshine Terrace went from being a 180-unit public housing high-rise, to supportive housing for chronically homeless men and very low-income individuals in Columbus.
CSH provided NHO with a $753,297 acquisition loan allowing them to purchase the property for a supportive housing apartment project in Lebanon for those with severe and persistent mental illness.
