Supportive Housing Works.
Invite Congress to see it in Action.
August 24–28, 2026
What is Supportive Housing Week?
Supportive Housing Week is a nationwide initiative led by CSH to show members of Congress how supportive housing works in their communities.
During this week, Congress will be back in their home districts on recess. This week creates a powerful opportunity to engage lawmakers locally. Through tours, conversations with community members, and community-based experiences, Supportive Housing Week brings to life the real-world impact of supportive housing.
This coordinated effort will highlight how supportive housing strengthens communities across the country.
Why Participate in Supportive Housing Week

Supportive housing has a proven track record at breaking cycles of homelessness, improving public safety, and building thriving communities. By creating opportunities for members of Congress to engage directly with providers, residents, and community leaders in their districts, we can:
- Build stronger relationships with members of Congress
- Deepen understanding of how supportive housing contributes to safe, thriving communities
- Elevate solutions that align with common sense policy priorities across the political spectrum
When lawmakers can see supportive housing firsthand, the conversation shifts from abstract policy to real, tangible outcomes.
How to Get Involved
Our Supportive Housing Week toolkit equips providers, advocates, community leaders, and partners with everything you need to know about engaging your members of Congress.
You can get involved by:
- Hosting or participating in a site visit to engage your members of Congress while they are in-district
- Sharing stories and examples of supportive housing in action with Congress members
- Amplifying the message: Supportive Housing Works

Without housing, people end up back on the street,
and we’re responding to the same situations over and over again.

Shelter is an act of compassion in the moment.

Why Supportive Housing Works
Supportive housing is one of the most measured, cost-effective, and accountable solutions for communities responding to visible homelessness. Supportive housing combines affordable housing with support services tailored to individual needs. Across the country, supportive housing helps communities do more with their resources, while delivering better outcomes for the people they serve.
Supportive housing works because it:
- Improves stability and well-being for individuals and families
- Reduces reliance on expensive crisis systems, including shelters, hospitals, and jails
- Strengthens communities by addressing interconnected challenges
- Advances shared priorities, including homelessness, behavioral health, veterans’ services, youth well-being, and community safety
Join the Movement
Supportive Housing Week is more than a week-long event, it’s a coordinated national effort to build understanding, strengthen partnerships, and advance solutions that work.
Together, we can open doors, share stories, and show what’s possible when communities invest in supportive housing.
