Medicaid and Housing-Related Services – What Health Centers Need to Know

As of Fall 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has approved 27 states and Washington D.C. to use Medicaid to cover supportive housing services. While these services do not directly provide housing, they can assist health center patients who are experiencing homelessness and/or housing instability in applying and accessing housing. Details regarding these services differ significantly depending on your state. In response, CSH created a state-by-state Medicaid Housing Related Services Toolkit to answer critical questions, including how to develop, offer, and refer to these services.

Session #1 (Jan 23, 2025, 2:00 PM ET) will cover how to use the Toolkit

Session #2 (Jan 30, 2025, 2:00 PM ET) will focus on how health centers can leverage these resources to make effective patient referrals.

CA Advocacy Day 2025

Join us in educating lawmakers on the needs of Californians experiencing homelessness through Advocacy Day.

This year’s Advocacy Day will take place on March 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM PST at the California State Capitol in Sacramento.

Advocacy Day Rally

Can’t join our full day event? No problem, everyone is welcome to gather at the rally and be part of the change! Join housing advocates and passionate elected leaders on the West Steps of the California State Capitol from 10-11AM PST for the Advocacy Day rally. The rally will energize our collective mission to advance supportive housing solutions across the state.

What is Advocacy Day?

Advocacy Day offers a chance for advocates to educate legislators and their staff on the needs of Californians experiencing homelessness. We will draw attention to policy proposals that would provide ongoing state funding for affordable housing and services, protect existing state programs, and create new programs to prevent homelessness among older adults and people with disabilities. You are the expert legislators need to hear from!

Do I need prior advocacy experience?

No prior advocacy or policy experience is required to attend! CSH will provide training sessions to prepare you for Advocacy Day and you will be prepped with all the materials you need to have successful meetings with State Legislators.

Please spread the word and share this with your partners! We are excited to welcome as many passionate advocates as possible in Sacramento to help advocate for statewide solutions to end homelessness in California!

Adopting a Model Tenant Selection Plan to Create Low-Barrier Screening

In 2022, the CSH Mid-Atlantic Team conducted a landscape assessment to understand trends in criminal background screening and tenant selection procedures in Virginia. Informed by the landscape assessment and a learning collaborative comprised of housing partners, we developed a Model Tenant Selection Plan (TSP) and companion tools to help reduce barriers to housing for people with justice system involvement. We have begun sharing these resources and learnings widely beyond Virginia, including in new regions like Michigan, Nevada, and Indiana.

In this webinar, you will learn more about this work and how to create alternative screening methods that promote equity and better serve people with justice-system involvement.
