NEW YORK, NY, Friday, August 28, 2027 – Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) today wrapped up Supportive Housing Week, a national initiative that brought members of Congress and their aides into more than 16 supportive housing communities in 10 states. They saw firsthand, mostly between August 24 and August 28, how supportive housing helps people with disabilities and complex needs to achieve housing stability, improve their health and well-being, and live with greater independence.
Providers and partners welcomed congressional members including Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Rep. Roger Marshall (R-KS), Rep. John McGarvey (D-KY), Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-OH), Rep. Mike Turner R-OH), Rep. Elizabeth Van Duyne (R-TX), and Rep. Marc Veasy (D-TX) along with staff representing Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Sen. Todd Young (R-IN), and Rep. Julie Johnson (D-TX). Prior to Supportive Housing Week, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) and aides from Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) toured facilities.

Supportive Housing Week was an opportunity to highlight the proven impact of supportive housing and the difference it makes in communities nationwide.”
Supportive housing combines affordable housing with services tailored to each resident’s needs. The model has consistently proven effective in helping people with disabilities and complex barriers to housing remain stably housed while reducing reliance on costly emergency systems.
“Supportive Housing Week creates valuable opportunities for members of Congress to see this work firsthand in their home communities,” said Kara Mergl, Director of Policy and Government Affairs at CSH. ” These conversations help demonstrate how federal investments translate into real outcomes and stronger communities across the country.”
Participating organizations hosted events in urban, suburban, and rural communities, demonstrating the broad reach and adaptability of supportive housing across the nation. Activities included property tours, resident and provider discussions, roundtable conversations, and community engagement events designed to increase awareness of supportive housing’s proven impact. The events also highlighted how federal investments in housing, healthcare, and community development produce lasting results for people and communities.
