About Justice Involved Supportive Housing
In 2019, the City vowed to finance 500 units of Justice-Involved Supportive Housing (JISH). However, the current funding levels are insufficient to adequately support staffing or provide crucial services for these units. Despite serving some of the most complex clients in supportive housing, JISH units receive approximately $17,000 less per unit compared to similar supportive housing units citywide.

What’s Next for JISH?
In the summer of 2024, the New York City Council passed their fiscal year 2025 budget to allocate $6.4 million to fund the units. Stay tuned for next steps on how this funding can help providers connect people exiting the city’s prison system to supportive housing.
Since the funding is discretionary, it is only available for one year. CSH is working the City Council, city agencies and the city’s leading housing providers, Urban Pathways, Fortune Society, and CAMBA. We continue to call on the Adams Administration to dedicate ongoing funding for JISH, which will help hundreds of New Yorkers break the street to jail cycle and find stability and opportunities to thrive.
