We Remember Dean Matsubayashi

Dean Matsubayashi

Dean Matsubayashi, a long-time friend, partner and supporter of our CSH work in Los Angeles, CA, has passed away after bravely battling a brain tumor for a year and a half.

As sad as we are over Dean's death, we take great comfort in knowing his significant achievements helped so many Los Angelenos. We celebrate his life mission and legacy of caring for others.

Dean served as the Executive Director of the Little Tokyo Service Center in Los Angeles for seven years, and before that he led their Community Economic Development efforts for an additional fourteen years.

Dean often worked side-by-side with members of our CSH team in Los Angeles to ensure all people in his neighborhood and the wider city were treated with dignity and respect, and offered opportunities to thrive in the community.

Dean was known for building bridges and fostering lasting partnerships. He was that rare combination of a visionary and doer who did not hesitate to roll up his sleeves to make sure the job got done.

Dean had one goal: A better Los Angeles for everyone, and he demonstrated his commitment to the Center and the greater community time and time again.

CSH expresses our deepest sympathy to Dean's family and colleagues. We miss him already.

Dean fought the good fight, and we will never forget all he has done to improve the lives of those around him and the City of Los Angeles.
