CSH Funder Spotlight: CareSource

CareSource is nationally recognized for providing member-centric health care coverage. The company’s managed care business model was founded in 1989 and today CareSource is one of the country’s largest Medicaid managed care plans. Headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, the company has built a legacy of providing quality health care coverage for Medicaid consumers.

CareSource has invested in CSH to identify and secure qualified housing and service providers throughout Ohio for the state's Community Transition Program, which is funded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

The Community Transition Program seeks to provide reentry supports to individuals exiting prison who have participated in substance use treatment or recovery services while incarcerated. One of the recovery supports available through the program is housing assistance and that is where CSH expertise is so important to the initiative. CSH knows what makes supportive housing work! CareSource has contracted with CSH to manage the housing benefit.

There are three possible housing interventions, including supportive housing, for which individuals exiting prison may qualify within the Community Transition Program.

In addition to the three housing options, emergency placement assistance may be required if a housing unit has been identified but is not yet available for move-in, and if the Community Transition Program member has no other short-term housing available.

Many tenants and prospective tenants of the housing also have reentry services provided through a separately contracted entity under CareSource, which is responsible for management of the full range of recovery supports, including treatment, counseling, and employment services.
