Part 1: Release & Explanation of Family Homelessness Research Study – University of Chicago Urban Labs (Note this segment of press conference focuses only on the Study’s data, methodology and findings. University of Chicago Urban Labs will not be commenting on any conclusions or recommendations others may draw from the Study.)

Part 2: Advocates’ Recommendations Based on Study – CSH (Corporation for Supportive Housing), CCH (Chicago Coalition for the Homeless), Homeworks Campaign, All Chicago, Catholic Charities, Heartland Alliance and The Ounce of Prevention Fund (Note this segment of press conference focuses on Recommendations from local advocates and is confined to the opinions of groups listed for Part 2, and should not be confused with the Study’s findings or the views or positions of the University of Chicago Urban Labs, which will not be commenting on Recommendations.)

When: Friday, June 15, 2018 10am Central Time. The Study is embargoed until then.

Where: 70 E. Lake St., Suite 720, in the Conference Room of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless.

Why: Never before have combined data on family homelessness from the Chicago Homeless Services System and the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) been researched and released. The Chicago Family Homelessness Research Study provides unprecedented information on the experiences of families considered homeless in the Chicago area. To date, Homeless Services and CPS have offered distinct resources and responses to thousands of students and families, presenting challenges to trying to understand family needs and outcomes in a comprehensive way. Although not part of the Study, the detailed Recommendations from local advocates will be a call to action to public and private stakeholders to collaboratively address the needs of homeless families and cooperate on effective responses to end family homelessness.
