Doubling Down for Vulnerable Americans

If approved as is, the  federal budget proposal would reverse the incredible progress we have witnessed on the national level. The success we have achieved together -- housing hundreds of thousands of Americans in need of a home to change the trajectory of their lives -- is at risk.

CSH will lead the charge and join forces with our partners to oppose any proposals that, if enacted, would kill jobs and proliferate poverty for generations to come.

PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS TO HOUSING & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

  • $6.2 B cut (13% reduction) to Housing (with steep cuts in affordable public housing reported)
  • Elimination of the office (Interagency Council on Homelessness) responsible for coordinating & implementing policies & actions among federal agencies to end homelessness
  • Elimination of the HOME Investment Partnerships Program
  • Elimination of Community Development Block Grants
  • Elimination of Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation

PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS TO HEALTH & EDUCATION

  • $15 B (18%) cut in Health programs
  • Changes in coverage that will cost tens of millions their healthcare
  • $9 B (13%) cut in Education

PROPOSED BUDGET CUTS TO INNOVATION & ECONOMIC GROWTH

  • Elimination of Community Development Financial Institutions, the economic engines in distressed neighborhoods, that provide vital financing for development projects (jobs & investments) the private sector are not likely to fund.
  • Elimination of the primary federal effort (Social Innovation Fund) spurring innovation and promoting cost-effective projects & programs that produce measurable, verifiable results.

We will make it clear to each and every Member of Congress the very high cost of approving reductions that would hit the disabled and vulnerable the hardest.

We also will continue to advance federal legislative efforts that offer real promise to leverage resources to create affordable, supportive housing - such as bipartisan legislation to expand the Housing Credit - and capitalize on widespread support for child welfare reform, actions to address the opioid-heroin epidemic, and plans to provide more flexibility and opportunities on the state and local levels.

We cannot fail the vulnerable Americans who depend on us for a voice and action. For them, we are doubling down to stop harmful proposals.

In the months ahead, we will be asking for your help to fight these cuts.
