The Annie E. Casey Foundation has dedicated substantial resources to advancing innovation in child welfare, and creating community change for children and their parents. As a leader in child welfare system reform, their goals align well with the underpinnings of the demonstration.
The demonstration is testing an intensive approach to providing vulnerable families with safe, affordable housing together with the other services and supports they need to stay together. With five sites across the country and multiple private and public partners, the project aims to bring supportive housing to more than 500 families with children at risk of, or already in, foster care placement. The overarching objective is to encourage local implementation of supportive housing services integrating community services for housing and other critical supports for child welfare-involved families, including customized case management for children and their parents, as well as trauma-informed interventions and evidence-based mental health services through local providers.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation has been developing new solutions to support vulnerable children and families for more than 20 years. They have worked with CSH and other partners to help communities, child welfare agencies, and policymakers keep children safe and prevent unnecessary removals from families. They embrace creative initiatives to help make sure children grow up in families, not shelters or group homes.
