Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in Newark, OH

The Main Place Opens The Place Next Door

The Main Place held a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 31, to celebrate the opening of The Place Next Door, a ten unit supportive housing apartment building. This development in Licking County, OH will house residents who can benefit from both affordable housing and supportive services, targeting individuals impacted by mental illness. The building is just behind The Main Place, a consumer-operated mental health recovery center that offers peer support, education, training, and socialization.

CSH provided The Main Place team with a predevelopment loan and capacity grant . This team also attended the CSH Opening New Doors Institute and Quality Institute, and benefited from ongoing technical assistance. CSH Senior Program Manager Terri Power had this to say at the event:

305_Ted JonesRC_14The Main Place Board President and former CSH Senior Program Manager, Ted Jones, spoke about the importance of housing and support for people in Newark, Ohio. He commented that this supportive housing development is about the people who will live here.  "It is about the people who will move into The Place Next Door to mend. To heal. To create new friendships. To lead lives we all tend to take for granted."

Next steps will include working to secure funding for a similar supportive housing development in Knox County.
