CSH Congratulates Luzada Hayes of Evansville, IN

Luzada Hayes, Executive Director of Aurora, Inc. located in Evansville, will retire in December 2014 with a myriad of accomplishments seen in the systems she has changed, lives she has touched, and vision she has offered for continued success on the path to end homelessness in her community and across the state of Indiana.

Luzada served as the Executive Director of Aurora since 2002, and in that time she led the charge on creating a ten year plan to end homelessness in Evansville and Vanderburgh County called Destination: Home. She also coordinated the update of this plan in 2012, working with CSH to offer a Charrette, or community engagement process that streamlines how communities develop and update plans to end homelessness. Through her tireless advocacy, ending homelessness in Evansville is becoming a reality.

Since its inception in 2013, Luzada has served as the Chair of the Indiana Balance of State Continuum of Care Board. Under her leadership, the Balance of State CoC has successfully received HUD funding, written a charter, developed plans for coordinated access, and found strategic ways to leverage mainstream resources in order to make significant strides toward ending and preventing homelessness.

“Luzada has been an amazing champion.  For over a decade, she has been the moral force to end homelessness in the Evansville community and the state of Indiana.  She is consistently given dignity to our most vulnerable citizens and advocated their need for housing solutions.  Through her leadership, Indiana has made giant strides toward ending homelessness.”

While this phase of her career is over, we look forward to her new role championing a system where homelessness is rare, short in duration and non-reoccuring.
