CSH Charrette in Regina, Canada!

Last week, CSH conducted another international Charrette in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  Contracting with the YMCA of Regina, CSH coordinated the event, assembling expert panelists from other Canadian Provinces and Cities, and facilitating discussion in an effort to move toward creating a housing first community plan.

With over 100 participants, the Regina Charrette drew attendees from different community groups, government entities, property management companies, service provider organizations and many others.

The intensive discussion process included sessions on Population-based Service Approaches, Landlord Engagement and Housing Strategies, and Mainstream Services Collaboration and Outcome Measurement. By bringing together government representatives, funders, housing and service providers, community members, and those with lived experience, CSH condensed a discussion and decision-making process, which might have otherwise dragged on for years, into about 70 actionable recommendations and strategies for Regina to pursue. These recommendations were presented to the community for feedback and were received with minor revisions.

As a result of the Charrette process, Regina will have its first Housing First Plan for Homeless Partnering Strategy – Canadian federal dollars for homeless related activities and are embracing the creation of a plan to end and prevent homelessness.

CSH thanks Tim Richter from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness for his help in Regina as well as his tireless efforts to spread expertise on Housing First and Plans to End Homelessness throughout Canada.
