Peer to Peer Connects Minnesota and Ohio Around Coordinated Assessment

CSH Staff Becky Melang (MN) and Ted Jones (OH)  led a group of nine Minnesotans on a Peer to Peer visit in Dayton and Columbus Ohio, to learn more about coordinated assessment.  The nine Minnesotans consisted of providers, county and state employees from across the Twin Cities area where they are working on doing a collaborative metro wide coordinated assessment that covers 3 CoC areas.

The group visited four sites in Columbus:  CSH Ohio's office to get an overview of Ohio form Anthony Penn, COO of Community Housing Network, the YWCA to learn about family coordinated assessment, HandsOn Columbus to learn more about using 211 for a point of contact for shelter intake, and the Columbus Shelter Board to learn about the overall Columbus system including the new individuals coordinated assessment system to be rolled out in the next year.

The group then went to Dayton and met with two groups, HomeFull a supportive housing and shelter provider who manage the coordinated assessment for singles, and Joyce Probst MacAlpin from Montgomery County who was the main force behind the system change to coordinated assessment in Dayton.  The trip was extremely informative, the group game back to Minnesota with many new ideas, and will presenting on what they learned to the rest of the CoC's across Minnesota to help share the knowledge.

A special thanks to CSH staff in Ohio and in particular  Ted Jones, for their amazing tour guide skills!
