New Report: Building Futures – Creating More Supportive Housing in NYC

CSH is pleased to announce the availability of a new report: Building Futures: Creating More Family Supportive Housing in New York City.

For vulnerable families struggling with homelessness, chronic health issues, intergenerational cycles of poverty, and involvement with child welfare or corrections, family supportive housing is an effective intervention.  It has been proven to increase stability, improve health and social outcomes, and keep families together, all while producing significant cost savings to multiple public systems.   Yet lags in the projected development of hundreds of new family units, spurred CSH, Enterprise and the Supportive Housing Network of New York in 2011 to engage key stakeholders in government, the nonprofit and for-profit development community and private investors, around identifying current barriers and proposing promising solutions to the challenges attendant to developing family supportive housing in New York City.

This paper, co-authored by CSH, Enterprise and the Supportive Housing Network of New York, reflects the collective expertise of the participants of a family policy series held in 2011.
You can download the new report here to find out more about financing and policy solutions identified by our local experts.

CSH would like to thank our collaborators and everyone who shared so generously their knowledge and perspectives.  As New York City and State seek to expand supportive housing in coming years,  may this report help disseminate best practices and point the way to new solutions and increased collaboration.
