Rhode Island is Making History

It’s official! Governor Chafee signed the Homeless Bill of Rights into law making Rhode Island the first state in the country to pass such protection for its residents experiencing homelessness!

Our national partners are calling Rhode Island a “beacon of hope” for bucking a national trend of cities and towns around the country criminalizing homelessness.

The story has been receiving national attention including The New York Times, The Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, Chicago Tribune and others.

As John Joyce likes to say, this victory was a true team effort so thank you for signing those petitions, calling your legislator, coming out to events, etc. Everything done truly made a difference!

We still have lots of work ahead in service of our mission of ending homelessness in Rhode Island but for a moment let’s celebrate, as Reverend Don Anderson said at the bill signing, a “job well done.”
