CSH is pleased to announce that applications are now available for the 6th annual Opening New Doors Supportive Housing Institute in Los Angeles
The Opening New Doors Supportive Housing Institute is a unique opportunity for housing and service providers at all levels of experience to hone their skills in the creation and operation of supportive housing serving individuals and families experiencing long-term or persistent homelessness. It offers a chance for supportive housing professionals to draw on each other’s expertise and learn from peers and national experts as they plan actual supportive housing projects in the Los Angeles area. This year, special consideration is offered to projects that build or expand supportive housing for chronically homeless, ex-offenders, frequent users of emergency health services, and transition-age youth (TAY). Interested participants are strongly encouraged to apply.
The OND Institute curriculum is targeted toward supportive housing “line staff,” which includes project managers, direct service providers, and on-site property managers. Training will be comprised of a series of interactive learning seminars, teamwork exercises, peer sharing, individualized technical assistance, and the application of new skills to project creation. Participants establish their own teams, set their own goals, and decide how best to use the array of institute offerings to increase organizational capacity to “Open New Doors” for homeless individuals and families struggling with multiple barriers to housing stability. Opening New Doors participants will also receive priority access to CSH capacity-building grants and predevelopment financing for these projects.
The Opening New Doors Institute goals are simple:
- Create sound projects that are ready to access public and private dollars;
- Create strong project partnerships with staying power and the skills needed to develop and operate supportive housing; and
- Significantly increase the number of units effectively serving individuals and families experiencing chronic homelessness.
