Our Policy Priorities
Every year CSH develops Federal Policy Priorities that are guided by our Compact to End Long-Term Homelessness. To build on the momentum that is growing nationally to end – not just manage – homelessness, CSH seeks to obtain additional federal, state and local funding for programs that help homeless families and individuals move into permanent housing with access to supportive services. Funds are used for capital (site acquisition, construction and rehabilitation), for supportive services, and to subsidize the costs of operating housing or paying rent. Some programs are geared to specific sub-populations, such as homeless veterans, chronically homeless people with disabilities, or individuals re-entering society following incarceration.
CSH also works with policymakers to make legislative and administrative changes to improve programs that benefit homeless families and individuals. In an effort to strengthen communities and families so they can provide support to their most vulnerable members as well as preventing others from becoming or remaining homeless, CSH also works to significantly expand resources dedicated to making affordable housing available to people with the lowest incomes.
