Welcome to the
CSH Michigan Website
In 1996, the Corporation for Supportive Housing established its Michigan program in partnership with the Michigan Department of Community Health (DCH), the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Department of Human Services, Department of Corrections and local consortiums beginning in four counties across the state to implement an innovative program aimed at creating supportive housing options for Michigan's homeless and special needs populations. Ultimately, the CSH program went statewide, offering training, technical assistance and systems advocacy to partners and sponsors throughout Michigan.
What makes the Michigan program unique is its use of a strategic planning process that allows each community/locality to dictate the type and nature of housing to be developed, the support services that will be provided, people who will be served, and the local organizations who will be involved. Local consortiums are comprised of representatives from city and county government, nonprofit organizations, consumers, advocates, and members of the local philanthropic community. This community based planning approach helps to maximize the opportunity for success in addressing the problem of homelessness in Michigan.
