About CSH Ohio
CSH began its Ohio hub in 1999 by forging a partnership with the Community Shelter Board and th
e Rebuilding Lives Funder Collaborative in Columbus/Franklin County. Since our founding in Ohio, we have expanded CSH services to communities across the state - such as Cleveland, Springfield, Stark County and others - as calls for our technical expertise have increased.
In 2006, CSH-Ohio and six state agencies concluded a groundbreaking agreement to collaborate on a plan to meet the state’s need for supportive housing. This agreement was a direct result of the efforts of Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, of the Ohio Supreme Court, who brought together six state Cabinet directors with the express goal of reducing incarceration rates among mentally ill individuals. Commitments to the Agreement came from the state departments of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Jobs and Family Services, Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Rehabilitation and Corrections and Youth Services.
To date, in Ohio, CSH has:
- Invested $5.2 million in loans, grants and consulting services to further the development of over 1,500 units of supportive housing in nine Ohio communities.
- Trained over 1,100 individuals across Ohio in aspects of supportive housing and launched in the state the first annual, Supportive Housing Institute: Opening New Doors.
- Forged a robust partnership with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) resulting in ODRC’s unprecedented $3.3 million investment in supportive housing as a re-entry tool.
- Worked to establish and now actively participates in the Governor of Ohio’s Interagency Council on Homelessness and Affordable Housing.
- Developed a new three year partnership with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency to build the state’s capacity to create and sustain quality supportive housing beginning in 2009.
