Important Message from Deb De Santis, CSH President
McKinney Homeless Assistance Act
Important Message from Deb De Santis, President of CSH
As we reflect on the 20th anniversary of the McKinney Homeless Assistance Act and rededicate ourselves to its renewal, it is important to understand what needs to be done going forward. All of us would like to see more overall funds dedicated to the plight of homeless persons. We agree there must be a national strategy to create affordable housing and credit the McKinney Act for elevating the dialogue surrounding homelessness. The Corporation for Supportive Housing remains steadfast in its commitment to a 30% set-aside of dollars to fund supportive housing projects. Study after study has proven that targeting funds to house and provide services to those experiencing long term homelessness is an effective means of getting people off the street and on their way to stabilizing their lives. Study after study has also demonstrated the cost effectiveness of providing permanent supportive housing. As we work with our partners to reauthorize McKinney Vento we will dedicate our efforts to focus the debate on what has worked over the years and how we might use our collective resources on ending homelessness.
