Supportive housing combines affordable housing with tenancy support services and care coordination to help people who face the most complex challenges to live with stability, autonomy, and dignity. Research demonstrates that supportive housing is a cost-effective intervention that provides better care and lowers Medicaid costs among beneficiaries with complex health conditions who are experiencing homelessness, unnecessary institutionalization, or a lack of stable housing. Studies of supportive housing also show improved health outcomes among individuals with complex chronic health disorders.

CSH provides training and technical assistance to states and managed care organizations that are interested in partnering with supportive housing providers. We also educate housing providers about the health care industry, train supportive housing providers to become Medicaid billers, and facilitate cross-system learning and networking events. This one-pager describes four examples of these services.
