San Diego celebrated the grand opening of Connections Housing. The Connections Housing project rehabilitated an historic 14-floor hotel into a residential and services center designed to reduce street homelessness in Downtown San Diego.
Connections Housing provides virtually every resource needed to break the cycle of homelessness, all within one comprehensive facility. Our strategic outreach efforts identify the needs of our homeless neighbors, so that we are able to prioritize those most in need of help in order to decrease homelessness on neighborhood streets. The building includes 73 permanent apartments, 134 interim beds, 16 special needs units, nearly 20 supportive service providers, and an 8,000 square foot health center.
This is an important collaborative that brought together supportive housing, transitional housing, a health center program and a multi-service center (that includes employment, case management, entitlement assistance etc…) – all under one roof.
This is a great project with many innovative ideas that can be a model for other communities. CSH played a very pivotal role from conception to the opening through our technical assistance, policy work and funding.
